Based in Mumbai, Payal Khandelwal is an independent journalist and editor with 20 years of experience. She writes primarily on art, design, and culture.
She has worked full-time with Kyoorius, The Indian Express Group, Campaign India, and Blink Digital. As an independent journalist, her work has been published in Man’s World, PrintWeek India, Paper Planes, Architectural Digest India, Motherland, Open magazine, Eastside, and IMPULSE magazine. She has been a contributing writer for It’s Nice That since 2023.
For six years, she published and edited The Floating Magazine – a digital publication devoted to in-depth conversations with contemporary visual artists and curators from around the world. The magazine is now an archive of over 100 interviews spanning 20+ countries. The project eventually expanded into a one-off print edition dedicated to art and activism, the TFM Resistance Zine. It was stocked at magCulture in London, City Lights in San Francisco, and Paper Planes in India.
Alongside her editorial work, she has done extensive content strategy and social media work for brands including ART India magazine, Akar Prakar, Art1st, JSW Prize for Contemporary Craftsmanship, MTB Exams India, and Phantom Hands.
Payal studied English Literature at Hindu College, Delhi University, and completed a postgraduate course in Advertising & Marketing at Xavier Institute of Communications (XIC), Mumbai.
